Sojourner was a great women's rights activist. Without her courage, it could have had a chain reaction in many ways. She spoke up for women when we had no rights at all. She was a fighter for others and herself. She also sued a white man and won her son’s freedom back. This alone gave others hope. She was both and advocate for women and slaves. I get the idea from her speech that since Eve made Adam sin, women were punished for it for decades after and even still now. She helped pave the way for reasons women to have rights. Bringing up the Bible was a great tactic. “Well if women upset the world, do give her a chance to set it right-side up again.” She also brought up that Jesus did not keep women from him. Back then people lived more by the word of the Bible that is why I think her speech had a great impact. Without her, it could have caused other women not to have the courage to speak up. There is power in numbers and her speech helped create many followers and not just women. Now we have all the rights men do. We can literally do anything a man can do, like run for president! No matter what gender or race we are here in America. Her name definitely fit her!
I really enjoyed learning more about Sojourner Truth. There were so many interesting tid-bits about her that I didn't know. I love that she sued to get her son back, that was incredibly daring. She truly was an amazing person, I am grateful to her for helping get the rights that I have today.
